Segment 8: When thinking about film festivals one of the most recognizable names connected with them belongs to Gabe Wardell.  The former Executive Director of the Atlanta Film Festival recently started his own consulting firm Atlanta Film Forum with co-founder Paula Martinez and is also in the midst of launching Decatur Docs, a documentary series that will begin screenings in January 2011.  Gabe is excited by the prospect of providing fresh content via the year round subscriber-based program.  He is convinced that DecaturDocs will be an example of the new paradigm featuring event-based screenings in as many markets as possible that is aimed at helping filmmakers create  workable distribution models.  John Donovan and I spoke with Wardell about his new projects, marketing and media attention and independent films like ”Winter’s Bone” and “The Hurt Locker” on this Filmmakers Notebook Podcast.  After you’ve listened to his interview, you can also follow Gabe on Twitter @gabesmail and find out more on the DecaturDocs website www.decaturdocs.com.
