016 Congrats Laurie Kirby, the New IFFS Executive Director!
Segment 14: One of the fascinating and intelligent guests John Donovan and I had the pleasure of interviewing at the IFFS was Laurie Kirby, Esq. However, little did we know back then that she was going to be appointed the event’s new Executive Director on January 6, 2011. When we met, the L.A. based attorney was on their Board of Advisors and offering sound legal advice to attendees as a panel member. Among the topics we discussed during our chat were legal rights related to the use of music and the different types of clearances filmmakers need to obtain before featuring it in their movies. Laurie is no stranger to the film festival world having served as General Counsel and Executive Director of the Newport International Film Festival, Marketing Director for the Philadelphia Film Festival and Jury Coordinator for the Topanga Film Festival as well as consulting with a number of others. She also works with filmmakers, directors and festivals through her firm, L.A. Eye For Talent (www.laeyefortalent).
