Independent Film Marketing Specialist Sheri Candler is joining with The Film Collaborative and Jon Reiss in order to provide a special gift to Indie Filmmakers.  It’s a book called “Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul” featuring information and case studies in hybrid, DIY and P2P independent distribution and it just became available today.  The material covers specific details about marketing and distribution plans and strategies used by various filmmakers and describes how well their efforts worked shedding light in a number of areas.  While it may not be an exact blueprint to follow, it answers questions that filmmakers are asking every day while they wrestle with the complexities of developing new business models and the writers should be congratulated for creating such an insightful and inspired piece of work.  Presented by Prescreen and Area 23A, this book should be required reading for anyone who wants to be an independent filmmaker considering all of the twists and turns and minefields found in the distribution landscape  today.

During this Filmmakers Notebook interview Sheri shared how you can get your copy absolutely free and also discussed  the exciting new project she’s looking forward to working on.  Enjoy the podcast and then be sure to visit the website where you can get “Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul”.

I just wanted to thank you, Patty, for sharing this information and doing this great interview with Sheri. Distribution is such an important (often unknown) part of the filmmaking process and I think filmmakers are hungry for good information. As a documentary filmmaker myself it’s been a bit dizzying keeping up with all the latest trends and trying to figure out what new methods of distribution are working and which ones aren’t.

Thanks again for a great interview. And thanks to Sheri, Jon and The Film Collaborative for making this book available to the filmmaking community. It’s very much appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to write in Faith. I would love to hear from you again after you’ve had a chance to read the book and find out what parts of it you enjoyed the most and what information you’ve learned from it that you want to apply in your next project.
