059 For Rob Albanese Doo Wop Echoes on in Music and Film

Rob Albanese is bringing his Doo Wop Holiday Extravaganza to Las Vegas on December 3rd at 6pm at the Tropicana Las Vegas Resort and Casino, so I thought it would be fun to have him on Filmmakers Notebook to share some of his thoughts about this type of music.  The three acts that will be performing are Kenny Vance and the Planotones, The Crystals and Diamond Dave Somerville.  What I found intriguing is that this type of music has developed a cult following over the years.  In fact, there was a film made called “Looking for an Echo”, which was also the name of one of Vance’s hit songs, that tells the story of the Doo Wop era.  The meaning of the name is pure New York and the desire to make an echo while riding in the subway system there.  This got me thinking about the need in filmmaking to always try using music as a means for creating, mood atmosphere or to help capture a period of time depending on the story.   See if you’re transported somewhere else when you listen to his interview.
