The Indie Theatre Showcase Reaches Out in Las Vegas

On Friday night  I enjoyed attending  a Red Carpet Premiere at the Las Vegas Hilton for a couple of reasons. First of all, it was a theatrical screening of “Reach for Me”, a heartwarming independent film starring Seymour Cassel, Adrienne Barbeau, Lacey Chabert, Johnny Whitworth and Alfre Woodard, which has won several awards on the festival circuit.  The story deals with the end of days for some residents in a hospice and how one young, vibrant man revives the spirit of an older and bitter one, who had been squandering his time waiting for death.

The other reason I was so excited about  this premiere was because of the location inside of the Hilton where it was held.  It is here that Giordano World Entertainment is launching the Indie Theatre Showcase with plans to open up the venue as an option for all independent filmmakers looking to screen their projects in Vegas.  The theatre seats over 350 including a balcony and two bars and both it and the concept behind it are unique and the first of its kind in the motion picture industry.  Focusing on showcasing Independent Short Films, Features and Documentaries, Giordano’s plan is to offer P&A and screens providing opportunities for filmmakers seeking a theatrical outlet.   The company believes that this plan limits the risk and expense producers normally incur while promoting and marketing their films.

Giordano has a simple submission process, including  a one time fee of $725 for feature films and documentaries and $349 for shorts less than 30 minutes long,  and for this the film receives a minimum of two screenings per week in the theatre and all needed print and adverstising  materials.  Ticket prices will be $7.00 per showing or $15.00 for a day pass and discounts will be available for groups, military personnel and senior citizens.  Once processed the film will be put into rotation, where it will continue to screen until audience support or ticket sales decline.  No additional fees will be charged and the film will continue to be screened if it receives good reviews and steady ticket sales (30% theatre occupancy).  At this point, there may also be an opportunity to increase the number of screens showing the film within the Las Vegas area.  Should it be successful within this geographical area, then Giordano World Entertainment would consider entering into a full theatrical distribution agreement with the producers or studio.  For more details, as well as technical information, please visit their website at www.giordanoentertainment.com.  I’ll be doing a follow up article soon about Giordano and their new business model and interviewing independent filmmakers, who are working with them, so be on the lookout for updates.
