Eyeballing Online Distribution With Film Annex

Indie filmmakers are always on the lookout for new distribution venues for their projects and one online film distribution company and Web TV Network bound to generate interest is Film Annex.  Its mission is to finance the productions of independent filmmakers and the social responsibility projects of organizations through the use of its distribution technology. What this translates into for content-providers is creating free web televisions with interactive players, which can also be syndicated on third-party websites.  At the same time, it monetizes the content on these web televisions through an advertising network and shares the revenues with its content-providers.

Both viewers and publishers benefit from this system, which enables the viewers to become financial supporters of the projects by simply watching the Web TV content, with more views equaling more revenue.  Furthermore, Film Annex gives website owners the opportunity to become executive producers on projects when they publish its player on their websites.  This process allows them to financially support filmmakers, as well as to educate viewers on new projects, while entertaining them with a varied catalogue of films and videos.  Currently, Film Annex has over 40 different Web TVs with quality content and an ongoing relationship with over 10,000 filmmakers and production companies including IFC Films, Focus Features and Lakeshore Entertainment.  More information is available on their website at www.filmannex.com.

  1. Great post, Patty. These new means of distribution are ready to take off. Like, now.

Web video is nothing new, but as we get closer to a complete merging of web and TV, the way film and TV are funded and put into public is completely changing.

It’s important for anyone trying to “break into the biz” to study, understand, and think creatively about this brave new world. After, it will get more eyeballs on anyone’s creative work.
