John Donovan and I spent a fun-filled morning at Theatre7 taping several interviews for Filmmakers Notebook and the other programs in John’s Network The La Voce Radio Show.  We were also there celebrating the Golden Bulb Awards being given to three local filmmakers from Theatre7 owner Derek Stonebarger’s in relation to his latest venture VIFF! or the Vegas Independent Film Festival, which is scheduled to be held in November 2011.

The three winning filmmakers received golden bulbs, a particularly appropriate as well as attractive award considering they come from the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.  Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity 85 bulbs a week are replaced from the sign and are available for purchase.  The filmmakers also received arthouse theatrical release of their films as part of the prize and will be shown at Theatre7 on a regular basis up until when the film festival is held.  Another aspect of the Vegas Independent Film Festival that is certainly worth mentioning is that it is an IMDb qualifying festival when submissions are made through Without A Box and categories will include features, shorts, documentaries, web series and experimentals.  Derek shares more info about VIFF! during two of the segments we taped at Theatre7, which should interest many filmmakers looking to get their projects on IMDb.

As for the winners of the first group of awards, Filmmakers Notebook is pleased to announce that Kelly Schwarze, director of “You People” won for Best Feature made under 250k; Jerry and Mike Thompson split the honor for Best Director on “Thor at the Bus Stop”; and Keith Mosher’s “One Long Day” won for Best Feature produced for under $25,000.  We had the pleasure of interviewing all three winners as well as being joined by actor Dean Mauro,  La Voce’s Editor Myken Bevilacqua and and, of course, our host Derek Stonebarger.   During the  week, I’ll be posting all four podcasts, so please keep an eye out.
